What foods are recommended for a diverticulitis diet and what foods should be avoided? Are there any herbs/supplements that you would suggest?

I have attached two documents discussing the importance of fiber in the diet and its role in digestive tract health. While fiber is important for the health and regularity of the digestive tract, there is much more to consider. Healing the gut properly and promoting regularity requires eating the right foods, removing any aggravating substances, as well as supporting the system with the right nutrients. The document on “Digestive Tract Health” lists recommendations to accomplish this goal.

The main types of foods to avoid are tiny seeds (as in poppy seeds or strawberry seeds). I would soak grains and legumes to make them more digestible, chew your food well, and stay hydrated. The document on “Natural Foods for Optimal Health” outlines the fundamentals for creating your best diet and should be used as an educational tool. Healthy foods are basic for a healthy intestinal tract.

I would consider the following nutrients to support your digestive tract:

IntestiNew by Renew Life supports a healthy intestinal lining.

Essential fatty acids (EFA’s) like fish oil (omega 3) and borage oil (omega 6) to modulate inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract.

Proteolytic enzymes will help digestion and modulate inflammation.

Probiotics will help to maintain healthy bowel flora to improve elimination and assimilation.
