I don't mean to "self-diagnose" my problem, but I was wondering if I could be developing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Lately, the fingers of my right hand are becoming numb and there is pain and tingling in my hand and fingers. Does this sound like it could be CTS?

If so, what would you recommend to ease this condition? I read an article in "Prevention Magazine" that seemed to describe those symptoms as CTS and they recommended use of "Capsaicin". Is that a cream or something that you could recommend that I try? I'd like to try something soon before it gets any worse. The pain is especially noticeable in the morning and usually when I am on the PC.

I do recommend that you tell your doctor about your symptoms because there is a test that can verify whether you have Carpel Tunnel Syndrome or not. The extensive use of computers in the workplace has contributed to a higher incidence of CTS, which is associated with repetitive wrist motion injury linked to continuous rapid use of the fingers.

There are topical creams like capsaicin that comes from red pepper, which can help with pain. There is a fairly new product in our stores called Topricin. It is an anti-inflammatory cream and very popular with our customers.

Along with topical creams there are supplements which support the nervous system and you might consider trying some of them. Coenzyme Q10 helps improve tissue oxygenation, Vitamin B complex is essential in nerve function and Evening Primrose Oil is an essential fatty acid also needed for nerve function. Ginkgo biloba is beneficial for improving circulation and aids nerve function. Below are links to two documents one on Coenzyme Q10 and another on GLA to give you more information on these supplements.

Regular chair massages may also prove helpful as the source could be in the upper back, neck or shoulders.
