I have a horrible habit of eating too much sugar, candy, and soda. I would like to eliminate them. Maybe alternatives would be a good way to go?

To attempt to clarify what might be 'fueling' your sugar cravings, you will find a file addressing Hypoglycemia and another addressing Serotonin Levels. Hypoglycemia is often known as 'low blood sugar'. It commonly runs hand in hand with low serotonin levels. Serotonin is our brain chemical that makes us feel happy and reduces the appetite especially for sugar and carbohydrates. For example, low levels of serotonin in the brain can result in craving sweets and craving other carbohydrates like bread, pasta and cereal. Conversely, when serotonin levels in the brain are optimal these cravings disappear and normal eating patterns emerge such as looking forward to healthy balanced meals and taking or leaving dessert.
Additionally, please read the attached file titled 'Planning Your Ideal Meal'. It will support you in visually gauging if what you are eating is balanced. Be sure to read the last page, 'listening to your body'...often when a person is craving sweets, they might find increasing their protein intake to be essential. Protein helps keep blood sugar stable. If blood sugar is stable - often cravings for sugar go away.
For some simple snacks that might be worth considering, in lieu of sugar, candy and soda - please see the attached file Healthy Snack Ideas.
If you are looking for a 'consolidated' supplement to support maintaining healthy blood sugar levels (in addition to a good multivitamin), you might consider one of the following:
Doctor's Choice for Glucose Regulation by Enzymatic Therapy
Glucoactive by Futurebiotics
Sugar Control by Nature's Plus
Glucose Metabolic Support by Now
All of the above products contain some combination of vitamins, minerals, herbs, and/or various other supplemental components that have been shown to support blood sugar balance.
